  • CREATING CLARITY AND FOCUS FOR A BUSINESS OWNER

    The Situation

    A senior manager for the Paper making Trade body had been made redundant, and decided in his mid 40s to finally start his own business – a long held dream. He had worked in all areas of the Industry, from being a Mill Manager to working for the whole industry to improve its safety record. In this latter role, he had worked close with Union Leaders, Managing Directors and the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). In this latter role, he had helped the Industry dramatically increase its safety record by reducing the number of deaths, serious and long term injuries as well as lost time incidents.

    He had set up his own coaching and consulting business, yet faced with the prospect of working on his own, his focus was all over the place, and after his first year he was barely making £20k per annum.

In his first year, his earnings more than quadrupled. In subsequent years, he worked with associates to create bespoke training programmes for the industry, improving productivity and individual performance, as well as becoming an Executive Coach to the industry’s leaders.

    The Situation

    A highly capable former IT Director was about to move with his wife to the US, as she had been promoted to a new role there with a major multi-national pharmaceutical company. Without warning, there were problems in securing their Green Cards, which led to the position having to be filled within the US. Although his wife was appointed to a new position in the UK, he had already started winding down his own company. Having passed his existing customers onto other companies, he was now faced with having to start all over again – except this time he wanted to change the nature and focus of his business to that of not only creating websites for SMEs but providing IT consultancy for large corporates. He also wanted to provide online marketing services to his SME clients, though he lacked confidence after the circumstances that had led them to sell their house in preparation of a long term life changing move to another country.

    During his Individual workshop, he was able to draw a line under all the disappointments of the previous 9 months, and as he began to create his Intended Outcomes and goals for the coming 12 months, a renewed spirit of enthusiasm and excitement began to take hold.

  • ELIMINATING SELF LIMITING BELIEFS

    The Situation

    A vet, who was separated from her husband, had just moved to a new area with her children, and was practising her vetinary business across a large area of the country. Unfortunately, owing to the separation, she had lost a lot of confidence and her mobile practice had as its clients retired pet owners with little money. This led her to undercharging them for her services and not even charging them for travelling long distances. She wanted to change her way of life, but was unsure what direction she now wanted to take.

    With her Best Year Yet Coach, she became very clear about some of the limiting beliefs that had been holding her back – especially around the area of money. She also connected with some of her real passions in the field of medicine. She became very interested in the field of Neurophysiology (the study and cure of behavioural problems in young children).  With the benefit of accountability to her Coach, and a new passionate focus, she became an accredited Neurophysiologist in a record time of 6 months. She now treats both behaviourally challenged young children, charging appropriate rates for her work – as well as the occasional parent!     The Results

    During her first year with Best Year Yet, she also divorced her husband, and found love with a new man. They have just celebrated their wedding. Her Neurophysiology practice is thriving and she has a completely new life that she is both thrilled and passionate about.

  • RENEWING PASSION IN THE BUSINESS

    The Situation

    A married mother of three, who had worked for leading financial firms in the City before she had children, had returned to full time work acting as a Business Development Manager for the consulting arm of an accountancy firm. Whilst her children were growing up, she had set up a property rental business in Europe and in the UK. The business ticked over and was potentially very profitable, but she had lost her passion for it. In her new role, she opened a host of new opportunities for the consulting firm, but she was never given credit for these openings. Whilst she was generating extraordinary opportunities with a host of major financial institutions and household names, the business seemed unenthusiastic about following these through. Both excited by the work she was doing and potential business she was generating, she felt frustrated by the lack of enthusiasm by the consultancy’s leadership.

    The workshop was a revelation for her, as were the monthly review sessions. She was approached by a number of competitor firms, yet she began to realise that her values weren’t being met in her role as Business Development Manager. She longed to be her own boss again, and over time she reconnected with the passion she had for travel and the reason why she started her property business in the first place – primarily to build something of her own and to use her excellent language skills.

    She has now started to expand the business again with a new website and using social media her occupancy rate has begun to soar, and she is about to sell one of her UK properties for a 7 figure sum. Working from home again, she now has much more time with her children who are young adults, and whom she treasures.   • THE REALISATION OF A DREAM

    The Background

    A single mother, who was living in a one bedroom flat with her 10 month old daughter, was a TV critic for a national newspaper and had ‘a mortgage from hell’. She had dreamed of becoming a bestselling author of quality fiction. How she was going to get there from her current circumstances seemed a far off hope indeed and completely unattainable. She genuinely believed she was a perfectly organised person. Yet, as she herself said to herself, ‘ If I’m so organised, how come I’m in such a mess?’

    With the Best Year Yet programme, she began to set up a system of monthly goals to meet my annual goals. She then used weekly goals to meet her monthly goals. Having her new Paradigm or vision, this began to orientate her daily life. By reviewing monthly with my coach, she discovered why some things had been completed, and why others had not.

    In a nutshell, she began to realise that she never liked doing things she was afraid of, and that she was afraid of pursuing what she wanted most. As a result, with the help of her Coach, she began to dismantle her strongest limiting beliefs, and replace them with empowering ones.

    Over time, she reshaped her life, and her way of thinking to such an extent that within a few years, her first novel shot to the top of the bestseller lists.

    The Results

    Since then, she has written seven internationally bestselling novels, and four exceptionally well received works of non-fiction. She is now Head of Creative Writing at one of the UK’s foremost universities and has just signed another 3 book deal with her publisher. As she describes her experience: ‘Meteorically successful people seem to have none of the hindrances I had to overcome. I think of such people as being like the mythical goddess, Pallas Athene, born fully armed from the head of Zeus. Mortals have to knit their own chainmail, and what Best Year Yet did was to give me the pattern.’

  • ON THE VERGE OF THE BIG TIME – COMBINING BEST YEAR YET & GROWTH ACCELERATOR

    Background

    Justine was making jewellery from her garden shed. She had a track record of failed business ventures and lacked confidence in her own business acumen. Her husband developed a ‘cool’ website which attracted some interest from a couple of ‘you tube’ stars who bought her jewellery (cloth wrist bands priced £6 – £20 online). They started wearing it in their ‘internet’ you tube productions and their fans started asking questions about where they had bought the jewellery. Sales started taking off. Justine was then contacted by her brother in law who works for St Kids (a fashion brand of Live Nation). After messing her around they eventually put in an order for 2000 wrist bands. It took Justine 6 months to make them all and they sold out within 3 weeks!

    However, her negotiation skills were poor and she didn’t know what to do next to try and get her business off the ground. Occasionally she made high end bespoke pieces of jewellery (£2000 – £5000) which were hand-made diamond encrusted engagement rings.

    She had created two brands Justine (high end) and Unjust (for St Kidds), but she didn’t really know where to focus her time.

    Her coach offered a free session during which he went through his 5/3/1 year strategy conversion. This really opened Justine’s eyes – she had never really looked at her business in this way as her whole life she had spent living hand to mouth. She instantly saw the benefit Best Year Yet, supported by business coaching, could bring. However she didn’t have any spare money, so her coach offered several things she might want to think about in the short term which focused activity of increasing website sales to generate income and suggested that she might be able to get financial assistance towards him working with her over 12 months using Best Year Yet as a system to help her stay focused and track her performance. She loved the name and the concept. The Results In the end she was so convinced coaching was the answer to making sure past failures didn’t get in the way of being successful this time that she borrowed enough money from her family to pay the £600 plus £700 vat Growth Accelerator fee.  This meant I could work with her over the next 12 months for the equivalent of £2,800 + vat

    Since then they have created the most amazing BYY plan for Justine. It was incredibly emotional for her with many tears! He has also coached her on her self confidence and negotiation skills; the result has been a new contract with St Kids for 3000 items, moving from the shed to a new small production unit and her first 2 employees, freeing her up to focus on the high end brand Justine and to work on the business as opposed to in the business.

    She has set a Best Year Yet income target of £57,000. Seeing how skilful she is and how well she is responding to her coach’s challenging coaching style, he challenged her to make one piece of Jewellery worth £57,000. She thought he was crazy! However,  she has only gone and done it…. working many hours she has sourced an antique diamond and is making a ring which she can sell for £57,000. Word has gone round Live Nation and they want to introduce her to Rhianna (their latest sign up) because they know she loves rare jewellery. If that comes off ‘Justine’ could go global!

  • TAKING PERSONAL PERFORMANCE TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL

    Background

    One of the top network marketers in the UK had already proven how successful he could be. Financially free before his 30th birthday, he was seen as his FTSE 250 company’s public face to over 70,000 distributors, recording many videos on the company’s intranet and on You Tube, as well as hosting and organising conferences to audiences of up to 10,000 people. In addition, he was a Football referee at Championship, as well as Football Leagues One and Two. However, injury had curtailed his refereeing career, and he wanted to regain his status – and to take his own contribution and income to the next level, as well as become a published author and international speaker.

    During the first workshop, it became clear that this already high performer felt he was living too much in his comfort zone. After reasonably swift success, he sensed he was coasting and the workshop revealed unexpressed dreams of working and operating at a completely new level. His coach worked with him to outline a non-fiction book he’d always wanted to write, and through his monthly goals fitness targets were set to get him back not only to his previous status as a referee, but go beyond what he had achieved to date.

    With the discipline of monthly review meetings, this high performer started working at a whole new level. He flourished in his writing, his fitness levels and his performance as a top network marketer, as well as breaking through on the international speaking circuit. Key to these breakthroughs were helping him unravel what he wanted to achieve next in his life and being accountable to his coach for taking a whole host of impactful actions.

    The Results

    He is now seen as one of the top 5 most successful network marketers in the company. He also returned to refereeing, winning plaudits from critics and with his games (and him) being seen regularly on BBC1’s Football League Show every Saturday night. He starts his first North American tour as an International Speaker to audiences of at least 10,000 people this November.
